FAQs

How can I help diagnose my leak?

Pond leaks can often be caused by an area that has a low liner. The liner could be damaged by tree roots or an animal’s claws. A solution is to start looking around the water feature’s perimeter and pull up the liner. A quick inspection at each waterfall is useful to clear away unwanted leaves and debris that could raise the water level and create a leak.

How do you tell if a pond is leaking or evaporating?

On average, your pond can lose about 1” to 3” of water each week across the surface of the pond. In hot, dry, windy periods this rate can be higher . If the water loss is greater than this, it typically indicates a leak. You can determine leakage rates by measuring the drop in water level with a marked stick or you can contact us for more information about pond leak repair.

Do you repair cracks in a concrete pond?

No, we do not repair concrete. We don’t paint it, fill it or put a sealer in it. We know that in Colorado, concrete will eventually crack due to the freeze-thaw cycle. When you are ready for us to remove it and replace it with a low-maintenance, sustainable alternative, contact us and we will set you up for an estimate.

How long does a pond liner last?

Using a liner prevents your pond from leaking. We recommend 45 mil EPDM liners because they form a good seal and are puncture-resistant. EPDM stands for ethylene propylene diene monomer, which is a type of synthetic rubber. Part of our pond maintenance service includes assessing the condition of your liner. Fortunately, this type of liner can last up to 30 years in a pond with the use of underlayment.

How do you restore a pond?

The first step in pond restoration is to determine its current condition. If the pond equipment is salvageable, we will start by draining the water and removing the used liner for replacement. Additional rock and gravel is replaced if a different look is desired. We install required filters and equipment and fill up the pond.

What does my pond pump need?

Sediment or debris in your pump could cause it to over strain and reduce life, so unclog that pump. Early signs of wear and tear might be more noise and higher electric bills. Check your water level in the pond or vault. If you think your pump is not working correctly, don’t ignore the situation; call us.
