Garden Pond Cleanouts – It is Springtime!

Spring is on it’s way and a garden pond cleanout may be just what you need.  Bulbs are already popping up and before we know it, green will take over our landscape and some of our ponds too! If your pond has debris that blew in over the winter it may cause an excessive build up of decaying matter, ready to feed the beast of sludge and algae.  If you want to get ahead of the game, remove any organic matter from the pond so that it can’t decay.  Put in some cold water bacteria too.  

Your perennial plants will be coming out again soon, like lilies, iris and cardinal flowers.  But be ready!  Plan on getting to your local garden center to get some floating water lettuce and floating water hyacinth as soon as the change of frost passes.  They are fabulous filters and are inexpensive to add for the season.  They propagate like crazy and will soon be a great shade cover for the fish.  Worried about them getting to be too many?  No problem, just take some out and add to your compost pile.  They literally just have to be picked up.  No digging to get them out!

The Story of Colorado Pond Pros

When Mike was a young man (wait – he’s not that old!) he began to work in the landscaping industry.  He quickly found out that he loved making things beautiful, loved to work with his hands to be creative and he enjoyed working with people. He worked with all types of landscaping including sprinkler systems, hardscaping, and even snow removal.

Excitement

As he learned more, he was introduced to backyard ponds.  This really got him excited!  He could imagine building gorgeous ponds in people’s yards that would help them relax, get them outside with their children and benefit the environment at the same time!  With the support of his wife and two young children, he set out to build a business that specialized in the creation and service of ponds and waterfalls of all kinds!  This was a risky step, starting his own pond business.  He’d had his own landscaping business for years, but he felt passionate about the artistry of creating waterfeatures.  He wanted to have fun, help others and support his family.  In 2006, he found AquaScape, a product and waterfeature company  in Chicago that works across the globe.  They set the standard for waterfeature products and quality service. He discovered the friendship, the support and the training to help make his business a success.

Where he is today.

Throughout the years Mike has become an expert pond builder! Experience has made him the person he is today,  an artist who builds waterfeatures of all kinds, bringing joy to families and finding fulfillment in his own work. Mike is committed to providing and sending his crew to ongoing training through AquaScape to keep them at the cutting edge of waterfeature creation.  He is able to participate in donation pond builds and service projects that benefit communities and individuals.
